| Administrative History | St Peter is one of the five ancient parishes in Derby. It also included the township of Litchurch outside the borough, and the chapelry of Boulton (D1532). New parishes were created out of St Peter's in the nineteenth century: in Litchurch, St Andrew (D958) and St James (D3308) became ecclesiastical parishes in 1867, while Holy Trinity (D1793) became an ecclesiastical parish in 1847. Normanton, too, became a separate parish (D3611). These parishes were in many cases further sub- divided later in the nineteenth century. With the closure of Christ Church and Holy Trinity Church by 1976, the parish became known as Derby St Peter and Christ Church with Holy Trinity. |
