| Description | Witnessed and dated at Chesterfield, Tuesday after the Feast of the Holy Cross in the 28th year of the reign of Henry VI [16 Sep 1449].
The premises described were (i) a messuage being situate in Chesterfield in Saltergate between the cottage of Richard Calcroft on the east and the cottage of Roger Mylne on the west, adjoining headlands over the aforesaid way on the north and the gardens of William Bradschaw and the Guild of the Holy Cross on the sout; (ii) the croft lying between the croft of Nicholas Durand on the west, and others of different men of the borough on the east, adjoining headlands over the lane leading from Haliwelgate to Tapton Bridge and croft of the aforesaid Michael: and (iii) six acres of land in the fee of Newbold: of which one and a half acres lie between the land of Nicholas Durrand on both sides and adjoining headlands over the road leading from Chesterfield to Whittington on the south and towards Newbold Mill on the north: another one and a half acres between land of Nicholas Durrand on the south and the land of Robert Whittington on the north, adjoining headlands over the aforesaid way and le Brodemedew: and three acres between the lands of a man called Kyrkland to the south and Thomas Calcroft to the north, adjoining headlands over the aforesaid road and the stream called Sywaresyke.
The original deed was made on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross of the same year [14 Sep 1449].
