Administrative History	The Alfreton Ironworks were established in Riddings in 1801. They comprised coal and iron mines as well as furnaces for smelting iron ore and were the property of the Oakes family of Riddings House, later James Oakes & Co Ltd. The company was in liquidation in 1978.
