Administrative HistoryTicknall is one of the original parishes of Derbyshire. Its boundaries have not changed significantly for ecclesiastical purposes, except that the parish of Calke, originally an extra-diocesan peculiar and for long held in plurality with the parish of Ticknall, is now considered to be an integral part of it. In consequence the church of St Giles at Calke is now regarded as a private chapel in the hands of the Harpur-Crewe estate. For the Calke parish records, see D3962, but some of the records in D1396 relate to the two parishes jointly.

The first register for Ticknall apparently started in 1589, but the section up to 1626 had been lost by 1881, according to Kelly's Directory.
Custodial HistoryAcquired by Derbyshire Record Office in 1974.
