| Administrative History | Ilkeston Borough Council was established in 1887. It was abolished in 1974 as a result of the reorganisation of local government in 1974. |
| Custodial History | D1385/1/1/22, 26-32, 37-44, 46-79, 83, were transferred to the Derbyshire Record Office soon after local reorganisation in 1974. All other documents were formerly housed at Wessington outstore and came from Ilkeston/Erewash Museum. Further deposits were received from Erewash Borough Council in August 2018 and November 2022. |
| Appraisal | Duplicate minute books from Erewash Museum have been destroyed. Minute books previously numbered D1385/1/1-2, 4 (now D1385/1/1/15-16, 18) received from Ilkeston Borough Council were in poor condition and destroyed; replaced with books from Erewash Museum. Committee minutes, Mar 1972-Mar 1974 (unbound) with former references D1385/2/1-15 have been destroyed and replaced with bound versions from Erewash Museum. |
