Description
This map is described in the Derbyshire Record Society's "A Catalogue of Local Maps of Derbyshire c.1528–1800" (compiled by Harold Nichols, revised by Mary Wiltshire assisted by Susan Woore, published 2012). The description reads as follows:
A Map of the Hamlets of Wilne and Shardlow belonging to Leonard Fosbrooke Esqr. taken by John Whyman in the year 1766. Surveyor:John Whyman. Scale: of 28 chains [1:3700]. with dividers, Size: 80 x 99 cm. Materials: ink on parchment. Centred on: SK440305 Notes: 8 point compass rose. Estate map showing named closes with areas, reference numbers, boundary hedges, trees: buildings in block plan, bridges, rivers Derwent and Trent, weirs, Wilne Mill, boats on river: adjoining lordships named: title cartouche, coat-of-arms, [Craven p65], penmanship decoration possible loss of colour as all land was not owned by Leonard Fosbrooke.
