‘ I am informed by William Flint, barmaster of Longstone, that you have demanded of Mr Rotheram a quarterly account of all ore measured in Longstone Liberty - I suppose that it is on account of Gell’s tithe, who has 1/3 part with his Grace who is for taking it in kind- the usual method has been to set each partnership their tithe for a half year or year - His Grace take 1s for every 1/20 dish which we call tithe silver.’
