TitleCopy lease by Jane Holden of Holborn, (Middlesex) widow of John Jolliff of Petersfield (Hants) to Pierce Galliard of Edmonton (Middlesex) and 13 others (named), properties of the Portway Mine at the Coast Knowles pa Elton - whereas the mine is much annoyed with water and the proprietors wish to erect one or more fire engines - and whereas the quarter cord on each side of the vein, allowed by the mineral customs will not be sufficient - and whereas the proprietors have occasion to dig stone to erect the fire engines and such may be got in the land in the possession of Henry Knowles as tenant of Holden and Jolliff - in consideration of £50 - of liberty to erect a fire engine and other necessary buildings and to carry on the same for 7 years, provided that the land occupied or used for getting stone shall not exceed ½ acre, at an annual rent of 20s. 28 Mar
