Archive CreatorFitzherbert Wright family of Osmaston Hall and Yeldersley
Administrative HistoryFrancis Wright, a Nottinghamshire businessman married Selina Fitzherbert eldest daughter of Sir Henry Fitzherbert of Tissington. Upon the death of his father Francis inherited the family estate at Osmaston where he built Osmaston Hall c.1840. A committed evangelical Anglican he was also responsible for building St John's church in Ashbourne c.1872 as a Free Church of England congregational, and the National School at Osmaston. Soon after Francis's death in 1873 the family moved to Yeldersley. Osmaston Hall was demolished in the 1960s. Fitzherbert Wright built a tower for St Andrews Church, Swanwick with clock and bells in 1903 as a memorial to Queen Victoria (see D1039/25/7). Francis Wright's eldest son, John changed his name to John Osmaston. In 1883 he sold the estate at Osmaston to Sir Andrew Walker. Henry Fitzherbert Wright built War Farm at Yeldersley in c.1918.
