Administrative HistoryThe Erewash Canal was completed in 1779. It ran southwards from Eastwood to serve the Nottinghamshire-Derbyshire coal belt before joining the River Trent at Long Eaton for onward trade to Leicester and Nottingham. It was later joined along its length by feeder canals at Cromford (1794), Nottingham (1796), Nutbrook (1796) and Derby (1796).
Custodial HistoryThis plan was purchased by Derbyshire County Council in 1949.
