Description
The Unlawful Societies Act, 39 Geo III c79 (1799), instituted control over printers in order to prevent the printing of irreligious, treasonable and seditious papers by certain societies. Notices were to be delivered by persons having printing presses to the Clerk of the Peace who was to send a copy to the Secretary of State.
