Description | Comprising: Q/RP/1/1-404: Derbyshire Deposited Plans of Public Undertakings relating to turnpike roads, canals and public works, 1807-1864 Q/RP/2/1-322: Quarter Sessions Railway Plans, 1799-1932 The plans are arranged in two series, comprising: turnpikes, canals and public works (Q/RP/1), which were formerly classified by black numbers, and railways (Q/RP/2). Plans will normally be accompanied by a book of reference, which will include a schedule of land and landowners affected by the proposed works, together with related papers such as orders, notices etc. It is important to remember that not all works were carried out. |
Administrative History | In advance of an application to Parliament to build a canal, turnpike road, railway or other public works from 1792 it was necessary for plans to be deposited with the clerk of the peace for every county through which the intended works would pass. |
