Description | Indenture between (1) John Newton of Ripley, yeoman, and Rebecca his wife, (2) John Mason of Thrumpton, county of Nottingham, yeoman, and (3) Daniel Philips of Ripley, clerk, concerning a messuage with croft in Ripley and several closes of land called the Cocker Close, the Lime Close, the Pitt Close, the Upper Well Close, the Nether Well Close, the Hedge Close, the Croft Ends, the Great Common, the Upper Common, the Little Common and the Sitch, another messuage in Ripley called the Cocker House (occupied by William Clark) with croft, six close of land called the Coat Close (now divided into two parts), the Broad Meadow, the Little Close, the Fistley Close, the Lane and the Lane Piece, and 2 other closes of land in Ripley called the Marehay Close and the Mean Close, all to be described in fine as two messuages, 20 acres of land, 40 acres of meadow, 40 acres of pasture and common of pasture with apurtenances in Ripley. In consideration of 5 shillings Dated 4 Feb 1742 and 16 George II: by modern reckoning the year is 1743.
