Administrative HistoryParkhouse Colliery was first sunk by the Clay Cross Company in 1866 to work the Blackshale coal seam. The Tupton coal seam was also later worked. It was also known as Clay Cross No. 7 Pit. Control of the colliery was transferred to the National Coal Board following the nationalisation of the coal industry in 1947, when it came within the East Midlands Division Area No. 1 The colliery eventually closed in 1962.
