Administrative History | The colliery was first sunk by the Butterley Company in 1859 near Langley Mill. It was originally known as New Winnings, and was classed as being in Loscoe. It was renamed as New Langley after 1891 to differentiate it from Langley/Bailey Brook Colliery. It worked the Deep Hard, Deep Soft, Low Main and Piper coal seams.
As a result of the nationalisation of the coal industry in 1947, New Langley Colliery passed in the control of the National Coal Board, being place in the East Midlands Division Area No. No. 5. Official closure came in 1960, but underground workings were merged with Ormonde Colliery. |
