National Coal Board
Administrative HistoryPits on the estate lands of the Hastings family were sunk and developed in the Leicestershire and South Derbyshire Coalfield area during the 19th century. After the death of Charles Frederick Abney-Hastings, Lord Donington, in July 1895, a limited liability company was established to take over the running of the collieries, which included Church Gresley in Derbyshire and Reservoir, Rawdon and Marquis Collieries in Leicestershire. In March 1903 Donisthorpe Colliery was purchased by the Moira Colliery Company through a newly formed subsidiary company called Donisthorpe Colliery Company Limited.

In 1947 the coal industry was nationalised, and control of all the company's collieries paased to the National Coal Board.
