NotesFormer home of the antiquarian Thomas Bateman (1821-1861); Grade II listed building dating from 1844 with additions.

Pioneer archaeologist, Thomas Bateman of Rowsley and later Middleton-by-Youlgreave, built Lomberdale Hall in 1844. It stands back alongside the road to Youlgreave and he enlarged it in 1856 to house his growing collection of archaeological artefacts. Further additions were made about 1920 and alterations in 1980.
Bateman organized his illustrations collection by inserting them into a 4 volume copy of Lysons Magna Britannia, Derbyshire, creating a fascinating and unique illustrated record of the county. The purchase of the collection for Derbyshire Libraries was made possible by the generous bequest of Miss Frances Webb of Whaley Bridge, well known local historian, who died in December 2006.
