NotesA river valley in Derbyshire, extending from the upland moorlands and reservoirs of the Peak District in the north to the city of Derby in the south. The upper valley contains the Howden, Derwent and Ladybower Reservoirs, while the middle and lower valley include historic towns and villages such as Matlock, Cromford, Belper and Darley Abbey. Part of the valley is designated as the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site in recognition of its importance in the development of the factory system during the Industrial Revolution.
