Description
Microfilm copies of archives, mainly surrogates of materials held at Derbyshire Record Office. Also including some records copied when in private hands or held at other repositories. Although the microfilms are flat-listed with a running number, rather than being sorted into discrete series, the contents conform to a few predictable types:
Anglican parish records and non-conformist records (including Congregational, Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian and Moravian), "mixed records" and records of major landed estates such as FitzHerbert of Tissington collection (D239), Gell of Hopton Hall collection (D3287) and Wilmot-Horton of Catton Hall collection (D3155), cemetery records, educational records (including schools and school boards), electoral records (Derby and Chesterfield - see the microfiche collection for the main series of Derbyshire electoral registers 1837-1900), enclosure records, manorial records, Ordnance Survey and other maps, probate records, quarter sessions records, tithe records. In addition, there are approximately 14 unlisted microfilms, the contents of which are currently unknown.
