Administrative HistoryThe Hodgkinson family purchased the Overton estate in Ashover in 1642. William Hodgkinson (1662-1731) was the last male owner in the direct line and these are microfilm copies of his day books including his lead mining interests. On his death, the estate passed to Anne Hodgkinson who in 1714 had married Joseph Banks alias Hodgkinson of Revesby Abbey, Lincolnshire. Their only son, William Banks Hodgkinson (later just William Banks) was the father of the naturalist Sir Joseph Banks (1743-1820).
