Abstract
Nathaniel Johnston’s 1704 history of the Foljambe family from the 13th century down to his own day remained unpublished until 1834–5, when it appeared in a long defunct antiquarian periodical with minimal annotation. This new edition of Johnston’s text, based on the original manuscript, includes a very full introduction on the history of the Foljambe family. The editor’s introduction traces the Foljambes from their origins as foresters in the medieval Peak Forest, through their rise to become the most important gentry family in Tudor Chesterfield to their later move to Aldwarke, near Rotherham.
