HistoryThe first church at Saltergate was built in 1795 and the Wesleyan Methodist circuit based on this church formed in 1896. The present building was erected in 1870 and formed the centre of the amalgamated Chesterfield (Saltergate) Methodist circuit from 1930.

A redevelopment project in the 1980s combined historical features with a new space for worship, offering capacity for up to 450 people. As part of the redevelopment programme, a large hall, kitchen and meeting rooms were created, along with a coffee bar and Christian bookshop ("Cornerstone"). In the 2020s, a further improvement programme involved a new lift providing "full disabled access to the Sanctuary, installation of new sound and video equipment, refurbishment of Cornerstone and development of a new meeting room".
