History
In 1860, a Free Methodist chapel was built on Sheffield Road, although it was known as Duke Street. The building was demolished in 1904 and the congregation, now the United Methodist Free Church, moved to Albert Street, the church being known as St Johns Road. Following the construction of the inner relief road, the church united with Whittington Moor Methodist Church on Sheffield Road in 1982, worshipping in a new church on Scarsdale Road.
