History
The east Midlands branch of the Association of Teachers in Technical Institutions was inaugurated on 22 March 1907. The aims of the association were to protect and promote the interests of its members, to regulate their conditions of employment and relations with their employers, to advance further and higher education generally, including the promotion of exchange of ideas and to render legal advice and assistance in professional matters. It became the North Midlands Division in 1951. The association was merged with the Association of Teachers in Colleges and Departments of Education to become the National Association of Teachers in Further and Higher Education (NATFHE) in 1976. The NATFHE was dissolved in 2006.
