History
At the time of the Domesday survey the manor of Morton, with Ogston, belonged to Walter Deincourt. It apparently remained with the Deincourts until the 15th century, when it probably came into the possession of the Leake family. The Leakes remained lords of the manor until the death of Nicholas Leake, Earl of Scarsdale, in 1736. The manor was purchased by Henry Thornhill and others, who sold it to Francis Sitwell of Renishaw in 1749. R.S.Sitwell was still said to be lord of the manor in 1895.
