History
A Wesleyan Methodist Chapel was built on the main street in Hathersage in 1807. It was enlarged in 1871, having had a Sunday School built in 1845. A later Sunday School was built in 1907, along with other premises, known as The Institute, which was transferred to the Roman Catholic Church after the Second World War.
Following the unification of the Wesleyan, Primitive and United Reformed churches in 1932, the Wesleyan and Primitive congregations in Hathersage worshipped at the former Wesleyan church until a new church was built in 1939. The former Primitive chapel was closed at the time of unification.
