| Biography | Henry was the only son of barrister Henry Gally, who later became Gally Knight, of Langold, Nottinghamshire. He was educated at Eton and Cambridge. In 1808 he suceeded to estates at Firbeck near Rotherham and Langold Park. He was elected MP for Aldborough (1814-1815) and Malton (1831-1832, 1835-1846) in Nottinghamshire. He married Henrietta Eyre; the couple had no children.
Henry was a keen traveller. As a writer he authored several Oriental tales in 1816 and 1817. He also wrote books on architecture, including An Architectural Tour in Normandy, in 1836, The Normans in Sicily in 1838 and The Ecclesiastical Architecture of Italy in 1842-1844. |
