History
The Northern Midland Railway Act 1836 received the royal assent on 4 July 1836, the purpose being to allow the construction and operation of a railway between Leeds and Derby. The line opened in 1840. the Northern Midland Railway merged with the Birmingham and Derby Junction Railway and the Midland Counties Railway to form the Midland Railway
