| Biography | Horace Montague Clifford (1882-1942), son of a Loughborough solicitor, was in 1900 commissioned as second lieutenant in the 1st Derbyshire Volunteer Battalion of the Sherwood Foresters, with subsequent promotions to captain. In 1914 he was appointed captain in the (regular) 5th Battalion. He served in France in 1917-1918. In civilian life he was admitted as a solicitor in 1904, later becoming head of the Derby firm Clifford and Clifford. |
