History | She married James Clark Ross on 18 Oct 1843. It was said to be his promise to her not to undertake any more perilous voyages which meant that Ross turned down the chance to lead the Arctic expedition of 1845, which resulted in Sir John Franklin being appointed instead; she released him from that promise when 3 yeasr later he set out on one of the search expeditions for the mssing Franklin and his crews.
