BiographyHe was studied law in accordance with his father's wish, but did not take it up seriously as a profession. On coming of age he moved to Sussex, where he pursued his interests of reading, sailing and other outdoor activities, He became a writer following a voyage around Britain with William Daniel in 1813, resulting in his writing the first two of the eight volumes which came out of it. He adapted several pieces from French for the English Opera House and wrtoe two facres of his own. In the last 18 months of his life, when he had ill health, he wrote a number of playful and humorous essays on pastimes and similar subjects.
