| Biography | Son of Edward, 1st Baron Belper he was educated at Harrow progressing to gained LLB and MA at Trinity College Cambridge. He was Liberal MP for East Derbyshire 1868-1874. In 1874 he married lady Margaret Coke of Holkham Hall, Norfolk,daughter of the 2nd Earl of Leicester. He represented Berwick upon Tweed for a short period in 1880 before securing a position in the House of Lords upon the death of his father. He was aide de camp to the Sovereign between 1894 and 1914, a JP for Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire and Deputy Lieutenant for Nottinghamshire. He also played cricket for MCC in his youth.
