Archive CreatorDerbyshire County Council: Mid Derbyshire Educational Divisional Executive (1945-1974)
Administrative HistoryDivisional Executives were set up in 1945, following the provisions of the 1944 Education Act. Derbyshire was split into five divisions: North West, North Eat, Mid, South and South East. The Borough of Chesterfield became an Excepted District, with its own executive, and Derby, as a county borough council, ran its own education service during this period.

In 1974, the divisional executives were replaced by Area Education Offices. The bulk of Mid-Derbyshire became part of the Amber Valley and Erewash Area, which followed the new district council boundaries. The following places, formerly under the Mid-Derbyshire division, were placed in different areas:
- Pinxton and South Normanton transferred to the North East, Chesterfield and Bolsover area
- Matlock, Bonsall, Cromford, Darley and Tansley transferred to the High Peak and West Derbyshire area
- Darley Abbey and Allestree had become part of Derby in 1968 and were part of the new Derby and South Derbyshire area from 1974.

The executive provided the clerks and secretarial service for the governors or managers of schools in the area (see DCC/ED/7/7-12). The Executive also took receipt of the records (log books, admission registers and related records) for safe-keeping when schools closed. These records transferred to school collections, see below.
Custodial HistoryThese records were transferred to Derbyshire Record Office by the Amber Valley and Erewash Area Education Office in April 1974, January 1975 and January 1976 until reference D1389. They were re-accessioned to DCC in November 2024. Records for individual schools had been re-accessioned from D1389 to school collections in July 1995.
