| Administrative History | Francis Robert Raines (1805-1878) was born in Whitby, Yorkshire. He was ordained in 1828 and became curate of Saddleworth and then Rochdale. In 1832 he became perpetual curate of Milnrow, Lancashire, where he remained until his death. As an antiquarian, he transcribed documents and edited numerous publications.
His friend George Shaw (1810-1876), born in Uppermill, Yorkshire, was also an antiquary and collector, ultimately becoming an architect particularly specialising in Gothic revival churches. |
