DescriptionD940/Folder 8/Item 8 (i)
William Jackson, Foston, to Richard Bate, London.
Acknowledges receipt of his letter of 11 Jnuary 1700/1. As instructed, Gilbert Moor and Jackson went to view Pitfordould, but no certain estimation of the property could be carried out, because of flooding, following recent heavy rain. The property appears damaged, but could be kept in good order at a small annual cost. The fences are in good order. The current tenant is George Tabra of Sudbury. Jackson has given Moor as full an account of it as possible. Suggests surplus of broom is so large that some could be sold, leaving enough for Richard Bate's own use.
On reverse: account of rent arrears as at previous Lady Day, 25 Mar 1699/1700

D940/Folder 8/Item 8 (ii)
William Jackson, Foston, to Richard Bate, London. Separately dated continuation sheet to above. He and Gilbert Moor found the river had gone down enough to allow a full view. Much of the property is out of order. Regrets Villers has allowed [George] Tabra a 21 year lease; would want Bate to buy it.
