Description
This was one of 6 houses (numbered 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15) built after 1890 on land which seems to be variously described as at Stanfree or as at Shittlewood/Shuttlewood. In 1781 (see 4/2/1-2) it is described as 6a, late parcel of the Commons, and later was divided into 3 closes called First Piece, Quarry Close and Gorsey Knowle (see 4/2/4) Owners of the property include the Duke of Rutland, Joseph Richardson and his family, George Sykes, George Richard Adin and J H Hames. No 5 was divided from the main property and conveyed to Mr and Mrs E A Clarke in 1949. [Purchase deed packet CT 11980, file number DD 1325/A]
