Administrative History | The 1918 Maternity and Child Welfare Act made it a statutory duty for counties and county boroughs to appoint a committee on child welfare and maternity matters. This included powers to safeguard the health of expectant mothers and children under five, and to provide day nurseries. Under the 1948 Children Act, the committee was dissolved and functions taken over by the Health (see D919/C/1/47/1-8) and Children's (see D919/C/1/50/1-11) committees. |
