Description | The 1888 Local Government Act required finance committees to be appointed to regulate and control county finances, originally to approve costs in excess of £50. Previously there had been a Quarter Sessions finance standing committee, which dealt with finance and general purposes from 1872. A separate General Purposes committee was set up in 1889 (see D919/C/1/3/1-6). Occasional sub-committees of finance are included with these minutes, covering claims to compensation and travelling allowances among other issues. |
