Administrative History | The Great Hucklow Village Players were founded around 1927, with their first performance ('The Merchant of Venice') staged in a Holiday Home. Dr. L du Garde Peach a Sheffield journalist, author and playwright was a founding member and continued to play an important role in this venture with many of his plays being staged at Great Hucklow.
The Players were an innovative and very successful rural theatre group. Later renamed 'The Full Moon Players' because performances were scheduled for moonlit evenings to facilitate travel on foot, the group established its own 270-seat theatre. Performances continued until 1971. |
