Title
Two pieces of mummy cloth mounted on card, one described as being from Thebes
Date
[c350]
Description
Lady Franklin was a great traveller and whilst her husband, Naval Captain Sir John Franklin, was commanding HMS Rainbow in the Mediterranean in the 1830s, she took the opportunity to travel to Turkey, Palestine, Egypt, Syria and Greece. These small fragments of mummy cloth are likely to be souvenirs she brought back from Egypt in 1834. She is known to have brought back considerably larger objects from her travels, including a wooden mask from an Egyptian mummy.
