Administrative History | Katherine was one of eight children of John Packer (1572-1649) and his wife Philippa Mills. John Packer was a parliamentarian during the Civil War; he was highly religious, funding clergy to evangelise in Britain, and ensured that Katherine was well educated. She married Sir John Gell, 2nd baronet, with whom she had four sons and three daughters.
Between 1655-1658, she correspondended with the prominent presbyterian Richard Baxter, after reading his book 'The Saints' Everlasting Rest'. |
