Administrative History
John Franklin Gell (1851-1884) was the eldest son and second child of John Philip Gell and his wife Eleanor Isabella (nee Franklin). He died at Madras [now more widely known as Chennai] in India in 1884, having taken up an administrative post in the provision of education there a number of years before.
