TitleStart of letter from Mary Frances Gell to her brother Henry Willingham Gell, relating to the Franklin relics
Date14 May [1932]
DescriptionApology about stamp, not her fault. Morning Post review probably nothing more than puff from the author [Edith Gell]. Not heard of Polar Exhibition: "E de H" has all the relics which Mary sent to the Royal Naval Exhibition 1891, which are are now at Hopton: the Lefroys probably have most, as they were left them by Lady Franklin; the only relic she remembers is the journal book which provided the data for his "Narrative of a journey to the Polar Sea", which she rescued from sacks; she has a locket of J.F.'s hair and one or two letters; "E de H" has most of the Porden Franklin documents and Mary would be denied access to them to list them; Mrs Alston of Cromer, Norfolk has letters to J.F.'s family, some of which Mary has with her.
