DescriptionSigned at front by Boyd P. Manningham, 21 July 1827. Travelled from Naples to Palermo in Sicily; travelled from Palermo (23 July) to Messina, then on to Catania (27 July), Syracuse, Reggio Calabria; started for Otranto (15 Aug) and went over to Corfu, then onto Ithaca, Cephalonia and Zante; travelled back to Corfu; joining Admiral Sir E. Codrington, sighting of English and French warships as well as the Turkish and Egyptian fleets; going to Navarino; reference to meeting between Ibhrahim Pasha and Codrington with French admiral Henry de Rigni; arrived at Malta (3 Oct); went on to Messina, Syracuss, Agrigent], then back to Palermo; took steam packet back to Naples; travelled to Rome, then on Spoleto, Perugia, Florence, Bologna, Modena, Reggio Emilia, Piacenza and Milan ("the nicest town I have seen in Italy"); travelled north via Arona on Lake Maggiore, Semprone, Martigny on to Geneva and Dijon, where description of that tour ends.
Start of tour from London on 14 Sep 1823 with tutor [?]Wilthauer, travelling via Gravesend to Hamburg (28 Sep); travelled on to Berlin; reference to marriage celebrations for the Prince Royal [Frederick William] and the daughter of the King of Saxony [Elizabeth], "lame but rather pretty" [marriage took place on 29 Nov 1823]; included visits to Charlottenberg, Bad Freienwalde and Potsdam, Started for Dresden 24 Dec 1824, travelling via Herzberg; in early October visited Saxon Switzerland in the Elbe valley.
