Title
Agreement between Sir John Franklin and Charles Ferguson, Master of the barque "Rajah of Leith", for passage for John Franklin and his party to England, travelling from Port Phillip [Victoria, Australia]

Description
In consideration of £520, with clauses for the allocation of berths, sailing before 1 Dec or as soon as possible after, cabin furniture and lights to be found by the passengers, provisions, wine, and fresh water to be provided by the captain, the carrying of a respectable surgeon, the provision of a steady man servant by the captain for Sir John, passage by Cape Horn or Cape Good Hope and calling in at aprropriate stations, penalty clause of forfeiture of half of the amount if either party fail to fulfil agreement, payment of half in cash at Port Phillip and half by draft in England, passengers to be on board by 1 Dec, failing which Sir John should give notice to abandon the contract and pay the forfeit of £260 or pay £10 for each day the ship is detained. The party consists of Sir John Franklin, Lady Franklin, Miss Franklin, Miss Cracroft, Miss Williamson, a female servant and a man servant (to be found by the ship). The actual day in August has not been filled in, but the document has been signed and sealed in the presence of Fr. Hartwell Heaslowe and Joseph H. Kay
