TitleLetters from Douglas Spaffold to his family
Date1916-1918
DescriptionThese letters have been typed by his father and shared with relatives, primarily from India and some from Mesopotamia [Iraq].

In these letters, Douglas describes life on board the ship taking him to India, visiting Port Said, and what life was like for an officer stationed in India. He often writes about being bored and frustrated there. Eventually he was sent with an Indian artillery regiment to Mesopotamia (Iraq) and saw action against the Ottoman army. Again, his letters home describe his travelling experiences and what he found when he visited places like Baghdad. Also includes some photographs.
