Administrative HistoryClay Cross Urban District Council was created in 1894 under the Local Government Act 1894.

Under the Housing Finance Act 1972, all local authorities had to increase their rents by £1 a week. The Labour controlled Clay Cross Urban District Council at the time refused to increase their rents, whose policy was to subsidise rents from the rates. The Council also deified the Pay Board when it decided to increase council workers’ earnings by 33%. These were controversial decisions at the time, as were other spending decisions by the Council.
Clay Cross Urban District Council was replaced with the North East Derbyshire District Council from 1 Apr 1974 under the terms of the Local Government Act 1972.

It is believed that North East Derbyshire District Council commissioned District Auditor's Office, No. 11 Audit District, Sheffield to look into the accounts of the previous Clay Cross Urban District Council which was replaced by North East Derbyshire District Council under the terms of the Local Government Act 1972.
Custodial HistoryThese records were donated to Derbyshire Record Office by a member of the public in November, 2023. The papers were passed to the depositor by a retiring housing officer (who possibly had been a former housing manager and public health inspector at Clay Cross Urban District Council) probably at some point in the 1990s.
ArrangementThese came in as a bundle that did not appear to have been arranged in any particular order and have not been re-arranged during cataloguing.
