Administrative History | On 30 March 1854 Samuel Lowe of Chesterfield, general dealer, George Blake of Brampton, earthenware thrower, and John Knowles of Brampton, earthenware burner, formed the earthenware manufacturing firm of ‘Lowe, Blake and Knowles’. It is believed that this firm became Alma Pottery which later became the Alma and Brunswick Pottery, when Lowe bought out Blake and Knowles, and purchased the neighbouring Brunswick Pottery firm in around 1870. The connection between John Knowles and Matthew Knowles has not been established but both operated in Brampton, Chesterfield. |
