| Administrative History | John Storer (1808-1895) and his son Philip (1833-1899) were farmers in Littleover and Mickleover respectively. At the time of the 1841 census John is described as an Agricultural Labourer, by 1851 he was a joint tenant with his father in law, Philip Rodgers, of farm land in Mickleover. The 1861 census records John as a farmer of 95 acres employing one labourer, on Church Street in Littleover with his wife Mary, two of his children including Philip aged 28 and a servant, James Bull, a carter. John remains at Littleover until at least 1891. Philip, had married Dorothy Hodgkinson, the daughter of another Littleover farmer in 1862. Dorothy died in 1870, aged just 33, and by 1871 Philip was farming at Bannells in Bearwardcote (parish of Etwall). Philip and/or John had been farming since at least the 1860s as Bannells is mentioned in the earliest diary. |
