Administrative History | Wilfred F. Edmunds (1846-1889) was born in Chesterfield, the son of Flavell Edmunds (c1815-1874) and Sarah Anne his wife. Flavell was the editor of the Hereford Times between at least 1851 and 1861 (as per the census returns). Wilfred followed his father into journalism, being a reporter and clerk (presumably for the Hereford Times) in 1851. In 1854, he established the Wilfred Edmunds Ltd and began publishing the Derbyshire Times. The company was incorporated as a private limited company in April 1899.
In 1978, Wilfred Edmunds Ltd, publisher of the Derbyshire Times, was bought by F Johnston & Co Ltd, a family-run printers originating from Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland. In 1988, the parent company was was floated on the London Stock Exchange as Johnston Press. Wilfred Edmunds Ltd was dissolved in November 2020. |
